The first Saturn V was launched in 1967. The Saturn V was developed at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. The rocket's first flight, for the Apollo 4 mission, took place 50 years ago, on Nov. 9, 1967. It was one of three types of Saturn rockets NASA built. NASA's incredible Saturn V rocket propelled dozens of humans toward Earth's moon.

I read that the saturn V had a fuel efficiency of roughly 4.1 inches to a gallon. The Saturn V sent them beyond Earth orbit to the moon.

Two smaller rockets, the Saturn I (1) and IB (1b), were used to launch humans into Earth orbit. It was called Apollo 4.

Designed to fly three Apollo astronauts to the moon and back, the Saturn V made its first unmanned test flight in 1967.

Apollo 6 followed in 1968.
